Local artist Nicole Viste said she has been drawing western art for as long as she can remember.
She said it started as a hobby when she was growing up on the family ranch just outside of Hanna.
"I grew up in the middle of nowhere and had nothing else to do," Viste said.
After much encouragement from friends and family, Viste entered her first art show in the summer of 2009 and took second place in the drawing category. Viste said placing in her first show was a bit of a surprise.
"I thought I would do ok but it's still a huge shock and it's encouragement to keep going that's for sure." Viste said. Since then, Viste has had work in many other shows and more recently has been chosen to be published in Best of Worldwide Charcoal, Pastel & Pencil Artists, vol. 3.
In addition to drawing, Viste also does photography. She said her photography work is kind of a spin-off from her drawing. Viste said she often used photos as references for her drawing work and she started taking her photography a bit more seriously when she got her own camera.
