Managed to squeeze out some gains. Oil ( USO ) and Gold ( GLD ) prices spiked for much of the day as equities drop. Don’t look now, but oil is approaching the mid-$90a barrel price levels once again.

Netflix News Forces Traders to Make Arrangements

As I sit here to write this newsletter, Netflix ( NFLX ) shares finished down $41 (-35%). Back in just mid-July, NFLX was trading around $300, and analysts and pundits alike could not say enough good things about the company’s prospects. Even after Netflix raised prices (angering many customers), analysts believed the news to be a positive. “Pricing power,” they called it. Alas, not too long after that move, the stock began to fall. All the while, analysts reaffirmed their bullish sentiment repeatedly.

Fast forward to last night’s big earnings miss and analysts have headed for the life boats. Where does this development leave the retail investor (trader)? Sorry, but the analysts have already moved on to the next great growth story that supposedly can do no wrong.
