At the age of 81 and with a long string of critical darlings under belt, director Clint Eastwood can do whatever he darn well pleases. On Friday night, following a screening of his latest film “J. Edgar” at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), that meant walking onstage for a Q&A session happily munching on a leftover green room snack.

Eastwood continued snacking through a standing ovation from the audience, as well as through the first few questions during an interview session with his “J. Edgar” stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer, and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black .

A sweeping drama about the life and career of longtime Federal Bureau of Investigation director John Edgar Hoover, “J. Edgar” stars DiCaprio as the increasingly power-obsessed official and Hammer as Clyde Tolson, his right-hand man, both professionally and personally. The film premiered the prior night as the opening film of the AFI Film Festival and opens nationwide Nov. 9.
