Two planes collided over Breckenridge with five fatalities. One plane was piloted by Russell Paulger with two passengers and the other plane was piloted by Capt. Clement W. Brown with one passenger.
With cotton prices jumping 82 to 85 cents to a high of $4.25 a bale, the local gins were busy. So far there was 448 bales ginned at the Breckenridge Gin managed by Roy McClaren. The county expected five times that by the end of the season. In 1927, Texas had produced 5,050,000 bales of cotton. Due to some drought conditions in parts of Texas this year, the cotton crop was expected to fall below the previous year.
The Breckenridge Buckaroo football team had beat Eastland (32-0) and Brownwood (19-0) and were to face off with the Cisco Loboes, who topped the Oil Belt Class A, District II standings with two wins and one tie. At that time, Cisco was coached by W.D. Chapman. San Angelo had the tie with Cisco.
The Abilene Eagles were tied for second place with Ranger.
